Spetses is an island just off the south coast of the Peloponnese mainland about 2.5 hours by boat from the Athens port of Piraeus. If you are flying into Greece, you will want to land at Athens International Airport.

GENERAL TRAVEL PLAN

  • fly to Athens International Airport.
  • go by bus (1 1/2-2 hrs), metro (1 hr.), taxi (1 hr. 20 min.) or suburban railway (1 hr. 20 min.) to Athens harbor (Piraeus). Watch your belongings!!
  • take a hydrofoil/catamaran (2-2 1/2 hrs) to the Island of Spetses.
  • take a water taxi (5 min.), a taxi (5 min.), a horse buggy (5 min.) or walk (20-30 min.) from Spetses harbor to the Anargyrios and Korgialenios School of Spetses (AKSS) (for participants) or Hotel Spetses (for faculty).
  • Athens International Airport (AIA) is located 33 km northeast of Athens, while the Piraeus harbor is in the southern part of Athens.


ATHENS AIRPORT TO PIRAEUS

Bus/Metro

  • There is a direct bus (X96) from the Athens International Airport to Piraeus. The travelling time varies between one and two hours depending on the traffic. Ticket: Euro 5,50.
  • All buses depart from the designated area on the inner curbside of the arrivals level of the main terminal building just outside the Schengen Exit (Doors 4-5). You can buy your ticket from the ticket booths located close to the X96 bus stop or inside the bus.
  • You can also go directly to the Port of Piraeus by metro (Line #3, Blue). Travelling time:1 hour . Ticket: Euro 9. The metro is a great choice!

Taxi

  • You can also take a taxi but, as there are special lanes for buses, it is not much faster to take a taxi. Approx. Euro 55, depending on travelling time and the amount of luggage. You normally pay extra for the luggage.
  • The taxi queue starts from Door 3 of the Arrivals Level and extends up to Door 1.


PIRAEUS (ATHENS) TO SPETSES

  • To get to Spetses from Piraeus you will take a hydrofoil (about 2-3 hrs) (the travelling time varies depending on how many stops the hydrofoil makes on the way).
  • Hellenic Seaways offers 5-6 trips to Spetses daily, Approx. Euro 48-54 for a one-way ticket.
  • Alpha Lines is another option to reach Spetses with fewer trips daily. Approx. Euro 49
  • Tickets can be bought online or you can simply buy the ticket when you arrive at the harbor as there is a ticket office close to the hydrofoil. There are normally no problems getting a ticket except for a few busy weekends during the year.

SPETSES HARBOR TO AKSS OR SPETSES HOTEL

The distance from the harbor to the AKSS or Spetses Hotel (for faculty) is about 1.5 km.

Means of transportation:

  • On foot – It takes about 20-30 min to walk the distance along the beach.
  • Taxi – approx. Euro 12. There are a total of seven taxis on Spetses. You can find them in front of the petrol station in the Dapia near the end of the jetty where you disembark from the hydrofoils.
  • Horse buggy – approx Euro 15. The horse buggies, which take up to four people - or two people with luggage - are parked by the harbor in front of the Poseidonion Hotel. Make sure you arrange the price in advance.
  • Water taxi – approx. Euro 15-20. A water taxi takes up to 8 people. The water taxis are very close to the hydrofoils and they sail straight to the pier of Spetses Hotel or AKSS.
